Tracking Abortion Trends After the Roe v. Wade Overturn
A new KFF analysis examines the factors affecting the number of abortions in the U.S. since the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision. Research has shown that the total number of abortions nationally has slightly increased compared to pre-Dobbs numbers two years following the ruling.
The brief explores different estimates and the reasons for the upward trend in the number of abortions, including how more affordable and accessible telehealth abortion options, interstate travel, and state-level protections for reproductive health care in states without abortion bans or restrictions may have affected trends.
Along with the abortion trends analysis, KFF updated its "Key Facts on Abortion in the United States" brief that includes information about abortion in the U.S. and presents policies and current national and state-level data on abortion access and use.
