KFF Examines Potential Impacts of Increased Immigration Enforcement on School Attendance and Funding
As the Trump administration increases immigration enforcement efforts, including lifting restrictions on immigration arrests at schools, some news reports indicate that immigrant families are scared to send their children to school and that there have been declines in school attendance among children in immigrant families.
A KFF analysis reviews the available research on the impacts of immigration enforcement on children, including the effects on their school attendance and performance, as well as implications for their physical and mental health. The analysis also includes the share and number of school-aged children, by state, who live in immigrant families, and it discusses potential implications for school funding of any declines in school enrollment and/or attendance among these children.
